If you've never upgraded a weapon before, simply go into your character skills window (Ctrl+X) and click on the "Everyday Skills" tab. The middle button on the bottom row (looks like a sword/dagger) is the weapon upgrade button. Click that and you will see what materials you need to upgrade your weapon (you will need to un-equip it first). You will need to have used your weapon a bit first and let it get max experience (you will get a pop-up notification when your weapon is ready for upgrading). Note that after you upgrade your weapon it will raise its level requirement by 5 levels.
I decided to make a weapon upgrade guide so lazy people could just search for the weapon they have and see exactly what they need to make and upgrade it without having to think. I did make a formula guide (check my Alchemy Guide to take a look), but sometimes you just want it all spelled out for you without having to think "what's the grade 1 herding material?" or "what armor does a shaman wear again?"
Basically all this guide is is a list of all the weapons for all types up to level 50. It has their names listed as well so you can just Ctrl+F and type in the name of the weapon you want to upgrade/make. From there you can see exactly what materials you will need to make and upgrade your weapon (includes both upgrades!).
To see all the weapon types you'll have to scroll to the right as well as down.
